Matrix Moments

Media Moments: Question, reflect, connect

Finally

Tangled lines
chatter bustle
snarled mix
traffic rage hustle
had disorientated my mind
city craziness,
In the midst
a bird called
perched
four floors up,
perched
above one reality,
Finally,
I got the message
and the world suspended
upside down
in crazy tilts,
a frozen
life moment
and I lived
in a new
now moment
Seeing green trees
blue sky
life,
Feeling warm breezes
flower scents
me.

Starting Thoughts: Waking up to a reality inside a reality can be triggered by very small things; a smell, a sound, a feeling. And then the small moments can speak louder than the hustle of a city.

Left Out

Was it a traffic light
a smoke signal
a not so coded message?
The book lay flat
cornered on our bookshelf
picked from its upright neighbours,
still and quiet,
closed,
there but not there
a metaphor
for its contents.

"How to Cope
with Abuse"
the title
briefly removed
from a bookshelf
Taken but not kept
held but released
opened but briefly,

The story of a thousand
Pains
Historical traumas
Fractured hopes
Broken lives
carried within its pages,
forgotten buried,
desperate hands emerging
seeking from the grave
nails cracked
crying for help.

Was this book
left extracted
but returned
a silent teared whisper
from a brief borrower?

Starting Thoughts:
What do we read into the actions of others? Truth from our perspective or theirs? Do we see the hidden messages in what they do? How alive are we to others? I found a book that had been extracted and moved to a lying down position on our shelf . As I reviewed in my mind the conversations we had over the previous hours I wondered, "Did the visitor do this deliberately?"

Whisper Start

It starts with a whisper
A call to the new
To hope
To peace
To courage
To forgiveness
To live love
Know love
Be love.

Starting Thoughts: Before the Beatles, Jesus Christ had a song about love being all we need. It is so true, so basic, so profound, so needed in our world today as many people put increasing distance between them and others.

The love from God, shown in reality through Christ - poem

Sleepless Toss

On the couch
Reading a book
Early evening
Skeptical sleep keeps
calling eyelids over eyes.
When I finally sleep that night
It is to awaken at 2 o'clock
The turn of slow seconds
drip out of disturbed dreams
dark eddies still there
as I lay seeking slumber
Praying
but experiencing obsidian unbelief
Trapped hopes...
sleep of the sleepless.

Starting Thoughts: The moment when the brain awake can't seem to send its thoughts into the darkness around and in your head. Sleep is hard to find in the mind.

Unexpected

At cross intersection corners
waiting for green light
your complexity amazes me,
In the smile of a grandson,
Lifted arms,
your love is grinned,
Above flower hovering bee
crafted creation dance
your beauty amazes,
In blown paper rubbish,
Lonely swirls of forgotten,
your hope whirlwinds
into my Spirit.

Starting Thoughts: Surprised by the presence of God? Seeing God in unexpected places.

The Good

Genuine goodness that just wants to bring out the best in you. Can it be found? Yes!

My provision
My acceptance
My dreams for you
Are for good.

Good;
For your future
For your hopes
For the hidden
desires of your heart,
For testing times
When the path is not clear...

I am the good
Ahead, with and behind you.
Know I am
your eternal goodness,
Your God.

Shock

Repeated echoes
“You are in lockdown.
Follow lockdown procedure…”

How do you awake
to a new day
cloud thinning to
sunshine and blue sky
and suddenly
remember the
events of yesterday.

How do you
start the day
with breakfast
eating a meal
on a chair
comfortable cushion
safe in your house
when separate
in time and space,
separate to you
and your family
separate from values
you hope for,
this murder
has stolen innocence
this cowardice
has stolen strength
this hate
has expressed itself
livestreamed itself.

How do you
sickened
angered
grieving
raw
shocked...
speak out
call out
live out
the heartbreak,
something remote
but close,
something confusing
yet seeking
the edges of clarity.

49 times the grief
90 times the agony
changing numbers
newspaper numbers
reflecting chaos
triggering
greater family pain.

six hatreds
six tears
six thoughts
six degrees
of connected separation.

Prompt

Hope for Life

Hope
Creates an
ever expanding world
Options,
Possibilities,
Partner with this hope,
Lift your eyes
to hope in Christ,
You are a new creation
born from His salvation
Carrier of hope.

Starting Thoughts: Hope that lasts beyond having money in the bank, that things will work out right. Hope is something you can encounter even in the rough stuff that life throws at you.

Could it be true that real hope, in all situations, can come from knowing Christ Poetry Spoken Word

Hope

Do we
cling to vague human hopes,
puffs of imagination,
dreams that float
on crisp helium balloons
and rupture,
leaving only hearts
that leak and hurt
staining black
the dimming world
with a darkness that voids us.

Where is the heart floating?
Has it burst?
Questions of destiny and fear
drift in dust.

There on the same
edges of reality and death,
edges of earth and heaven,
in that space
we could desire
something different,
we could stand knowing
the stinging hope of eternity
from God,
a hope for the now
and beyond,
a hope that cuts
through collapsing confusions
calling a clearness
into today’s moments,

a hope based
in a vast powerful
intimate transforming love.

Choose now.

Lift your faith
speak to your spirit
the words of life and love
Choose the hope
of Christ
becoming the People of the Messiah,
the deeply desired
the completely known
the radically redeemed.

Christ's hope
Will infuse your steps
you will walk God's path
leaving behind anointed footprints
of everything done with God,
kingdom possibilities made real
kingdom treasures
that will stand and remain forever.

All things turned for good.

So choose
Believe in expectation.
The Jesus hope.

Lost

Deadly appointments,
every week
her thoughts slip into
spiralling self hate,
cut by gossip, snide barbs
oppression chains,
what she thinks others think,
Drowning in black surges
salt waters steal
Stripping layers
of life,
Until just a crying
mind self
bleeds dying rhythms
into surging seas,
washed and lost.

Can her heart
be saved?

Swallowed whole
Suicide by assignment
with decisions and indecision
she chose to swim
Tied in ropes
from past and present
Until it hurt
and death lethargy
overcame tired limbs
unwinding her soul
drifting into darkness
welcoming the release.

The first explosion
Of pain
was compressed lungs
screaming to take a breath
Knowing breath is death,
oxygen deprived,
mind spinning
she sinks further,
thirsting for numbness
wanting- not wanting to die
but intimately dancing
with death.

Can her heart
be saved?

Broken people stand
on the stony beach,
Knowing dying
is hardening out
in the dim currents,
wondering why
it keeps happening,
to the ones they
care about,
hoping a hand will
break the surface.

Unconscious the body drifts
Floating to the surface
and in the between
of life and final death
where dark closes in
and nothing more
surrounds,
She senses in her core
God is the only hope.
Her soul looks up
sees beyond the dark,
the disappear, the sea of pain.
and dares to trust.

Then a gasp of air,
her grip on death
is snatched away,
life support machines
faces of relatives, friends,
psychologist and strangers,
mix in a bewildering
scatter of awareness,
in hospital realities,
yet underneath
it all,
underneath the shame
is the new sense
she is loved deeply
loved fully for who she is
right here and now,
rescued and alive
for a purpose,
she is seen
without shame
without blame,
And she still has
that choice,
The hope which was lost
She can now find.

Who?

Who
do they say I am?
Charlatan,
liar, dreamer, good guy,
non-event, prophet,
historical figure?

Who do you say I am?
Put aside
your past boxed thoughts,
Ask and see,
Hope beyond
the pains of today,
the tidy world you live,
Who could I be?

Am I different?
Am I who I said I was?
Am I the One to save you?
Am I the son of God
who will accept your emptiness?
Can I be the disturber
and hope of your dreams?

TAKE OFF

and fly,
learn what the ceiling
holds for you.

SLEEP
Her eyelids
floated over her
eyeballs
and she drifted off.

MUSIC AT FIRST SIGHT

in her hair
and symphonies
in her eyes.

Without Blame

If every mistake
Every dishonesty
was recorded, held, kept
stored for future blame;
"Oh you've done it again,"
"Why do I always do this?"
Would the friendship last?
marriage last?
who could stand?
would self survive?

Can I cover
in activity, work?
Can I hide
in success, confidence?
Can I soothe
in sex, food?
Can I release
in sport, shopping?
Can I kill
in war, hate?
Can I forget
in drugs, alcohol?
Can I pretend
in family, love?
All is meaningless, random.
The sea rolls heavy
with turgid blood
of the dead,
living souls drown.

Out of the depths I cry
nightmare pain torn,
My whole being waits,
Suspended apart,
closed, open.

Can I put hope in God?

Shadow Struggles

Surrounded in dark
I know this blackened room
sharp objects of my life
hurting corners, shapes unseen
hidden
destructive,
I'm stumbling
over the same things
again and again
as I seek a way out.
Just finding the switch
seems so hard,
Is it safer just to sit
alone in this dark?

Shifting shadows
of others
all around me,
do they wait,
hidden,
for the same reasons?

Starting Thoughts: Does life seem to be a darkened room with no way out, and as you stumble you see the same shadows of others. Do others feel the same as you?

Death's Dance

Age has taken
smooth and replaced
with sags and wrinkles,
Outer strength
stolen by brittleness,
tiredness, weakness,
relaxed breathing
now shallow and hard,
we know the doctor’s
pronouncements,
we know the miracle
worker,
Yet at this moment
time sets itself aside,
as heaven touches close
to earth,
wiping aside the curtain
challenging life
with impending death,
Tendrils of history;
family and friends
wrap loving into the room,

and a hospital unit
is transformed,
A reality of eternity
births,
and it seems
like the world
takes a final breath,
How can the patient
be so peaceful, confident?
How can she smile and say,
"I'll see you all later?"
knowing what she is in?

You see the personal
power and love of Jesus,
enveloping her heart,
carrying her spirit,
a harmony
closing this realness.

Loved one
Dance into eternity.

Starting Thoughts: Watching a friend or loved one die always brings a lot of questions. I have watched a number of people die and some are amazing!

Old Age Spoken word on death and dying

Plastic Love

A cautious sunbeam
scatters dust and time
across the unseen
attic space,
time crumbles -
avalanche tumbling
present to the future,
cracked death
fractures window glass,
the barbie doll leers
under dark hidden
cardboard box shadows,
twisted arms agape
legs impossible
angles of hope,
vacant eyes torn
from plastic life,
heart black oil
joint seeping,
memories of childhood
mind blotted by
screams of adolescence,
frustration tears
seep slim cheeks,
cheapened silence
strangles desires
smooth skin
slim waist,
elongated arms akimbo
reflect human condition
in a circus hall of mirrors.

Dance on the soul
with your hate,
poke sneers
into the mindless,
sex your smile
in feeble resuscitation,
drift addiction
your dreams,
slumber with sleep
and rupture your essence.

Outside
rustling leaves
quiet clap
the always autumn sun,
time slows,
angles change and
the sunlight splits
through cracked pain
twisting God's rainbow
into the room.
Barbie broken, life discarded poem

Hope Discovered

In darkness
the anticipation of light,
times dreaming in
awakening soul,
Inside pain
a hug, longer, deeper
without false words,
taking the risk
of future pain,
Beginning life
cry of new born,
turns of suffering
giving way
to unfolding pages of beauty,
A choice
for possibilities
controlling fears
self whispering
“Try again.”
Knowing now's feeling
will not
be tomorrow's spirit ,
the Spring
after the Winter,
that in falling’s jeopardy
wings will work,

Hope...
The string
centimetre by centimetre
unwinding
a kite's flight.

Change @ Christmas

Static,
Time revolved
It seemed same old
A world less personal,
War and pain,
A planet revolution
Needed.

Jesus came
God came,
Provoking change,
Changed the shepherds
Changed Joseph and Mary,
Born to change you
Lived to show you,
Died to love you
Lifting you from
existence in the grave
Offering hope,
in a broken world.

Anticipation

Christmas
Anticipation,
Beginning of hope...
Drowned in the voices,
ad confused noise
Sarcasm screams
and steals,
Killing the thinking
curious
questions lost.

No different today
to the first time,
Cold power feeling threatened,
iron fist desperately speaking
commands of death,
Babies killed,
A fearful human king
trying to kill the true king.

Doubters emerged,
frozen religious thinking
denying the king
His claims on their life,
Liars advertising
Their version of truth 101.

Jesus,
Human frailty embraced
as a baby,
He stands
perfect in time
Alive after death,
He saves
Hopeless and hopeful
Anyone who comes.

Maybe that's why
Jesus said, "Come as a child."
Before those mind manipulations,
before games acted
before playmaking,
Just come as you are,
who you are
No matter where
you are from,
Where you sit.

The birth of hope
Alive after sacrifice
Love extreme
loves you
embraces you
knows you
sees you.
