Media Moments: Question, reflect, connect

Two Eyes

How can we see
with two eyes?

Two eyes that
look across a nation
look into a womb
Look at the same moments
Look at the same realities.

One sees unborn life
a miracle moment
a boy or girl
anticipated child
already part of a family
Talked about, scans adored,
arms, legs, mind, heart
so formed
it could be born now and live,
a baby.
Secretly cherished in anticipation,
now past a time
where parents accept the hope
of full term
seen as a life to protect,
Shared with ripples of separation
To Family, grandparents,
close friends, social media
A joy hope treasured
Heart held.
A Second eye
sees pain
labeled a foetus
distance from emotions
through a medical term
No easy answer
to this unborn complication
always a situation
persuading full termination
    the mind stress
    the so wrong rape
    the women’s rights body
all true
inconvenient reality
convenient reality?

A blinded world that has
Lost sight of love
for a mother
for motherhood
for a death row baby.
Are we not as strong
as our care for weak
as our care for the voiceless?

How can we see
with both eyes?

Starting Thoughts: Abortion is a contentious issue no matter what side you are on. The question is - are we really willing to look at and empathise with the pain on both sides, are we really willing to decide what constitutes life for both mother and baby?

Abortion, love and respect for life Spoken Word Poem

3 Gifts

Signposts from the East
Travellers entwined in history
Bearing gifts
Following stars
Part of destiny
And when they
approached the stable cave
Explained,
we are here from
Another country -
We know someone special
has been born within,
Joseph smiled a welcome
aware again with Mary
That something different,
amazing was going
to keep happening
with this baby Jesus;
Dreams with messages
Angels appearing
Shepherds who raised
passover lambs arriving,
And three wise men - why not?
They entered
awe, reverence, anticipation,
opening gifts;

Gold for the king
establishing God's kingdom
personal and hands on
justice, joy, peace,
frankincense the scent
of the High Priest
freeing the way,
tearing open the curtain
to the Holy of holies,
myrrh the painful gift
a drink, a fragrance
The myrrh drugged drink
offered on the skull
of Golgotha to a sacrificed Jesus,
refused by Christ's patched lips
The same myrrh spiced linen wraps
binding his body in an end of life cave,
Myrrh from a plant of thorns.

Three gifts pointing
The way to Jesus
So you can
kiss the baby
The Great I Am,
know the face of God,
know meaning in
God with us,
The greatest Christmas gift
unwrapping change for the world.

EFTPOS Receipt

Lazily curling
EFTPOS white ribbon
Receipt
Approved

For the cheap price
of "caution contents hot coffee"
you can be sealed
with authorisation.

Cheap validation
Clings to your personality
Climbing your shoulders
Cesspool whispering
in your willing ears.
Like, love, share, comment
swirling paper thin motivations,
skinny relationships
spirit wasting entropy,
praise from honeyed lips
echoing the cheap
price of life.

One word
is all it takes,
changing external
endorsement
to internal truth identity…

Jesus!

Where does our identity come from? Who really sees us? Where do we seek approval from and how does it drive how we react with others?
Approval and Identity Spoken Word Poem reflecting on life

God to Earth

Was the plan
to be incognito?
Only a few to know
of the baby
Heaven's anticipated arrival,
Born in a manger
Earth of earth smells.

But maybe the angels
Communicating at the speed of light
knowing the power
felt God's word at work,
"Shall we see what's going on?"
and followed the messenger angel,
from heaven's dimension.

And above night shrouded hills
they heard the words
spoken to amazed shepherds
"And you will find a baby.."
The Angel xfactors
couldn't contain worship
Bursting into human sight,
Unsuppressed singing surged
cosmic deep
sheer Joy ,
"Glory to God, peace on Earth"

Did God laugh and shake His head,
Those angels
couldn't keep anything quiet,
So much for the
laid-back birth plan,
No hushed start for God's
human shaped love.

God smiled,
“Shh… angels, don’t
wake the baby!”
The winged choir returned
sheepish.

Starting Thoughts: It hit me in a service - I wonder how the angels got to to be there and sing when they appeared to the shepherds? Do angels have agency apart from God ?- I think yes!
Birth of Jesus Christmas Poem

Perfectly Planned

Perfectly planned
In time's span,
The arrival.

A baby
To fulfill prophecy,
A light -
Star signs and creator's spark
A man
entwined with Universe power

In a time where Jewish
Religion was official,
A murder -
Killed and resurrected
A power alive -
When roads had been built
By a Roman kingdom
To carry the revolutionary news
Of Kingdom life.

Not of might
Of love,
Not of weapon
Of forgiveness,
Not of anger
Of patience,
Not of death
Of everlasting life.

Time planned
Eternal breath
All hopes arrival.
